Contract farming in cotton not taking off

Many textile mills have enthusiastically participated in corporate and contract farming of cotton. However, they have lost interest as farmers could not assure consistent supplies and sold good quality cotton elsewhere leaving the corporate with second quality pickings. Further, textile industry could not be sure of upcoming demand say, for a variety of cotton. Leading mills in Tamil Nadu like Super Spinning are carrying on with contract farming as a measure of corporate social responsibility and others like Surya group have opted out.
